super bowlSuper Bowl IX was January 13, 1975 with the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers vs. NFC champions, the Minnesota Vikings with the score 16 to 6 in favor of the Steelers.  The Super Bowl game was played at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. This was the Pittsburgh Steelers initial Super Bowl appearance and a third bid for the Vikings first Super Bowl win. Minnesota struggled through the first half with the only score made by the Steelers defense Dwight White when he downed quarterback Fran Tarkenton in the end zone for a safety, 7:49 into the second period.

The Steelers took advantage of the second half kickoff when Minnesota's Bill Brown fumbled the football and Pittsburgh Marv Kellum recovered it. Although Minnesota's offense was stymied by the Steeler's defense, they still managed to recover the football in the end zone with 4:27 left in the final period when Matt Blair blocked Bobby Walden's punt and Terry Brown recovered it for a touchdown.

Pittsburgh's defense allowed Minnesota only 119 yards total offense, including the Super Bowl's low of 17 yards rushing. The Pittsburgh Steelers meanwhile gained 333 yards, including Harris' record 158 yards on 34 carries. Franco Harris was voted the MVP.
